This is a starting point, not a fixed package. Mountain roads are seasonal, so Rezo plans around conditions.
The idea
Eight days, two halves. First the cellars of Kakheti; then the climb into Tusheti, where the road is 4×4-only and the villages are stone and slate. The wine comes first so that the trip builds from a long lunch to a remote valley.
How the days might flow
Arrive in Tbilisi and head east over the Gombori pass the next day. Two nights around Sighnaghi and Telavi give you the Tsinandali estate, a family qvevri winery and the town walls at sunset. From Telavi, a 4×4 takes the dirt road over the Abano Pass to Omalo and the villages beyond: about 100 km and four to five hours. Three nights in Tusheti make the journey in and out worth it. The last day is the drive back to Tbilisi.
Season matters
Snow decides when the Tusheti road opens. If your dates are outside the season, Rezo will tell you and offer alternatives. Read the mountain roads guide and the 4×4 adventure page.
